Greenhouse Elopement

Intimate Greenhouse Elopement Wedding day

at Fort Edmonton Park

There are many questions that couples need to answer when it comes to planning their wedding day; What wine should we serve? What colour palette should we use or what colour will the bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s suits be? Shall we have a DJ or a band? Each question poses many possible answers that couples can spend years navigating as they plan for the perfect wedding day. One big question, maybe the first question a couple asks themselves is Should we have a big traditional day or a small and intimate wedding? Some couples choose to simply elope, to keep it intimate and focused on the two of them, while others choose to be surrounded by their loved ones. There is no right or wrong way, just the best way for each couple to create a meaningful day, a wedding day that represents who you truly are as partners.

It is easy to get wrapped up in these decisions, especially since you receive so many opinions on what the day should look like. From family members to invite, traditions you might feel pressure to include, or comments on what to wear, your wedding day can seem to become everybody’s day but your own.

Weddings can be stressful. You don’t want to look back and have any regrets on how you spent your time on such a special day. After all, this day is about you and your soon to be husband or wife. I want to encourage you to create space and time for the two of you. I want to encourage you to keep your hearts focused on what this day is really about.

Sharing this day with loved ones is special, but it is disheartening when that aspect of the wedding seems to take away from the couple themselves. Maybe this resonates with you as you think of what to say in your vows, but many couple’s nerves influence what they include. Whether it’s stage fright, or just feeling uncomfortable sharing their romantic words in front of a large crowd, a beautiful, special part of the ceremony can quickly become a place of stress and anxiety.  It can be hard finding a balance between celebrating this lifelong commitment among friends and family and keeping it authentic and vulnerable. Because of this, I like to encourage couples to seek out the calm, intimate moments. Maybe that’s through an elopement ceremony, or just taking the time during the big wedding day to share a private moment. These moments are the ones you’ll hold closest to your heart, I promise.

I urge you to make your wedding day yours.  Share personal vows or write a letter to your partner, saying everything you want to say as you enter this next chapter together. Maybe there’s a special moment from when you first met or started dating you want to reminisce about or maybe you want to list all the reasons they make you happy or all the things you look forward to in sharing a life with them. Or, maybe do something that makes your relationship so unique and strong. Maybe you played catch on your first date, play catch for a little while. Why not? This day can be anything you want it to be.

I hope these beautiful greenhouse elopement photos at Fort Edmonton Park inspire you to create everlasting, intimate memories. Surrounded by elegant accents and greenery designed by Fabloomosity, this couple was radiant as they took the time to be present and connect with one another. They exchanged vows in peace and privacy. Sharing their favourite drink, sharing their words for each other, and sharing this moment that symbolized their commitment to each other is one they will be grateful they took the time to create. They laughed, played, cried, and celebrated. The two of them, for the two of them. I hope your day also consists of moments like this greenhouse elopement- peaceful, intimate, and truly unforgettable.

As I said, planning a wedding poses many questions that need answering, but don’t forget to answer this one- what about this day is most important to you and your partner? Not what’s most important to your mom, not what you’ve been told by society is most important, and not what you think would make people happy. Ask yourself, what would make you happy? What special moments mean the most to you, that you want to look back on and think those are our moments as partners in this life. I ask you to put the planner down and to sit with these questions. The logistics can wait. When you think of the day going perfectly, what do you see? It may be simpler than you think.
