University of Alberta Convocation Hall Wedding
Danika and Josh are such a special couple and it was a pleasure getting to photograph their wedding day. They have been together for over eight years. That moment of walking down the aisle after being pronounced husband and wife was something they had both been looking forward to with much anticipation. This wedding was unlike any other I had previously photographed. I cannot wait for you to see the images from this beautiful celebration.
Both Danika and Josh have a mutual love for all things vintage. This was incorporated throughout every aspect of their day, from the wedding dress to their invitations. They also wanted to make sure they included both Ukrainian and Scottish touches to give a personal nod to their families heritage. Things like a Korovai wedding bread that was made by June, the Bride’s mother, a traditional 3-piece Ukrainian band that played during the receiving line, and they even brought in Shumka dancers to perform a traditional kolomeyka wedding dance for all the guests. The decor was completely focused on all things vintage. This included a navy and cream colour palette, vintage photographs of family members, jewellery and old books that the couple spend time collecting in the months leading up to their wedding.
There was so much care and thought put into all the details, right down to the fresh lavender that was brought in to give the venue a whimsical vintage feeling with the added benefit of smelling great! Thank you, Danika and Josh, for allowing me to capture these moments in time for you so that one day these photographs could be on the tables at weddings for future generations.
