The way Dave and Alex met was like it was taken straight out of a movie. Dave saw Alex sitting at a table at their Billiard Club and thought to himself that she looked sad so he decided to walk right up to her and ask her if she was in fact sad. She answered “No, I just have a very serious face.” From that moment they ended up talking and dancing the entire night. They love spending time going on adventures together! Whether this be vacations, weekend getaways, day trips or going to the zoo they always have the best time.
Dave started planning the proposal months in advance. The idea for the proposal started after Dave attended a BBQ at their friend Erika’s house where she had played the guitar and sang a song she had written. Dave immediately asked Erika if she would mind playing the guitar while he sang a proposal song. They practiced for months, even using Erika’s boyfriend Chris to play the role of Alex in the rehearsal then on September 30th while they were in New Brunswick at a family medicine retreat, Dave’s plan sprung into action. That night there was a trivia contest after dinner, Dave told Alex that he didn’t feel well and was going to lay down in his room. After the contest, Alex’s friend Tanya asked her to come see something in her room but instead lead her up to a rooftop patio that was decorated beautifully with Christmas lights. Immediately Alex thought “Wow, Dave would absolutely love this!” Alex then walked through an archway of lights to see Dave standing at the end with a microphone and Erika sitting beside him with her guitar. He sang Alex the song he had written about their relationship while stopping midway to tell her that she wasn’t allowed to cry or he would too. At the end of the song he popped the question and honestly how could she say no?
INSPIRATION FOR THE WEDDING
When planning their wedding, Alex and Dave wanted to incorporate elements into the day and the decor that reminded them of their time living in Nova Scotia. They made sure to include some memorable moments into their big day like Alex wearing a brooch that women on her Mom’s side of the family have worn to their weddings for generations, a true heirloom piece. Dave also had a choreographed dance with the groomsmen that they both agreed was the complete highlight of the night!
